Sorry, this entry is only available in Português.
The second meeting of the Lisbon Social Media Café came and went. It was used so we could structure the idea of gathering a small social media directory.
Something simple, we want to gather online content written by Portuguese and about the Portuguese Culture.
The goal is to help others find out about other blogs, that are not so focused on technology or that don’t have a big visitor base. It’s our way of saying thanks and supporting their effort, putting them in the spotlight.
So, untill the 8th of November we will try to gather 99 Blogs for the following categories:
We will include podcasts, and even flickr accounts because it does not make much sense to limit the listing to blogging platforms only.
For those willing to make suggestions, you can join us in the google group or leave a comment.
The deal is that you will not suggest your own blog, instead we want to know which blogs you like and read regularly.
The next meeting of the Social Media Café of Lisboa is in Braço de Prata, at 17h.
The goal of this second meeting is to build a directory of portuguese blogs. We are trying to find interesting and relatively unknown blogs about Portuguese Culture, in hopes of helping them reach new audiences.
Later we will post the results of the meeting, untill then, feel free to subscribe to the RSS Feed.
It was saturday the 20th of September, and we gathered as planned in front of A Brasileira.
Our goal for that afternoon was to decide as a group how to conduct future reunions of the lisbon social media café, and the result was quite positive.
We talked about building a small directory of interesting blogs that are for some reason quite unknown. Ans also, we agreed that it makes sense to expand to more than just the blog, thus registering http://delicious.com/lisbonsmc and http://twitter.com/lsmc.
It became obvious that we can not follow the exact same model as the friends of Harry Tuttle. So we decided to adapt it.
The lisbon social media café will gather in different locations each time, but always at a saturday and on the 3rd or 4th week of the month.
The next meeting is saturday 25th so please keep in touch for more news!

Lisbon’s Social Media Café was finally presented at Barcamp 2008 in Coimbra.
With the resulting feedback, we decided to schedule the first meet-up to saturday, 20th of September.
We will meet at “A Brasileira”, in Chiado, at 2 pm.
The theme for this first meeting is the Social Media Café itself, we will decide the format and frequency of the meetings.
Everyone is welcome to participate, all we ask is that you leave a comment to let us know you’re coming.

In London, the Coach and Horses as been seing a gathering of minds that as been refered to as the Social Media Café, or The Friends of Harry Tuttle.
After finding out about the idea, a group of portuguese bloggers set out to import it to Lisbon. The goal is simple, to gather bloggers, podcasters and photographers and to nurish the debate regarding Social Media in Portugal.
But we want a bit more than that…
Back in 1915, Lisbon’s cafés were more than a place where you could get more than a cup of coffee. The cafés were a place to discuss politics, social issues, art, literature and science.
Five men had a habit of gathering in one of Lisbon’s most famous cafés and discuss literature, both national and foreign, sharing ideas and concerns about society.
It wasn’t long until they set out to “slap society’s sense of good taste”. This was the birth of the Orpheu Magazine, published by Luis de Montalvor, Mário de Sá-Carneiro, Ronald de Carvalho, Fernando Pessoa, and José de Almada Negreiros.
So it’s now 2008 and the Friends of Harry Tuttle are leading the way. It makes sense that we should follow. At the same time we would like to bridge the language barrier as best as we can. And in the spirit of the London social media café, we would like that the opportunity for bloggers to meet face to face could be used to raise awareness on the social media phenomenon in Portugal.
So please, feel free to leave your suggestions and comments and we hope to see you in the meetings of the Lisbon Social Media Café.
Our thanks to Sonia Valentina for letting us use one of her photos!
